Omnisend vs Klaviyo for Shopify: real monthly costs compared for 2026

Omnisend vs Klaviyo for Shopify: Real Costs Compared (2026)

Omnisend vs Klaviyo comes down to one trade-off for most Shopify stores: Omnisend costs less at every list size I priced, while Klaviyo gives you deeper segmentation and predictions once you have enough order data to use them. For example, at 5,000 contacts, Omnisend Standard runs about $81 a month against about $100 for Klaviyo Email. In other words, the question isn’t which tool is “better.” It’s whether your store can actually use what the extra $19 to $28 a month buys.

Omnisend is an email, SMS and web push platform built for ecommerce. Klaviyo is an email and SMS platform that also stores customer data and models predictions such as the expected date of a customer’s next order.

I checked both Shopify App Store listings, both vendors’ pricing and help pages, and two independent price trackers on October 18, 2026. However, I haven’t run either tool on a store. Accordingly, this comparison is built from published prices, documented features and each app’s review record.

Key Takeaways

  • Omnisend Standard is cheaper than Klaviyo Email at every tier I priced, by $4 a month at 500 contacts and $18 to $19 a month from 5,000 to 10,000 contacts.
  • Omnisend Pro, with unlimited email sends, costs about the same as Klaviyo Email from 2,500 to 10,000 contacts.
  • Klaviyo’s predictive analytics need at least 500 paying customers and 180 days of order history.
  • Both apps rate 4.7 out of 5 on the Shopify App Store, from 3,197 and 3,395 reviews.
  • Small and mid-size stores that mainly need welcome, cart and post-purchase flows get more value from Omnisend.

Which Is Cheaper for a Shopify Store?

Omnisend is cheaper at every list size I checked. The entry prices come from each app’s Shopify App Store listing: Omnisend Standard starts at $16 a month for 500 contacts, and Klaviyo Email starts at $20 for 251 to 500 contacts. Specifically, for the larger tiers, I used Omnisend’s tier table from EmailToolTester (updated August 2026) and the Klaviyo figures that several 2026 trackers agree on, including Retainful’s breakdown.

ContactsOmnisend StandardOmnisend ProKlaviyo EmailYearly gap (Klaviyo minus Standard)
500$16$59$20$48
2,500$44$59$60$192
5,000$81$90$100$228
10,000$132$150$150$216

I calculated the last column myself from those monthly prices. In other words, a store with 5,000 contacts saves about $228 a year on Standard. Therefore, the gap matters most when the cheaper tool does everything you need.

Verdict: Omnisend wins on price, by a margin that grows from $4 to about $19 a month as your list grows.

Which Has Better Segmentation and Predictions?

Klaviyo wins here, but only once your store qualifies. According to Klaviyo’s Help Center, it predicts each customer’s lifetime value for the next year, churn risk, average time between orders and expected date of next order. However, those predictions need “at least 500 customers” who placed an order, “at least 180 days of order history” and orders in the last 30 days.

In contrast, Omnisend’s App Store listing focuses on campaigns, automations and AI content. Its Pro plan adds advanced reporting and dynamic content. Nevertheless, I found no Omnisend documentation that matches Klaviyo’s per-customer predictions.

Hence the practical test. If you have fewer than 500 paying customers, Klaviyo’s biggest edge isn’t switched on for you yet.

Verdict: Klaviyo wins on segmentation depth, but only for stores past its data thresholds.

Which Handles Abandoned Cart and Core Flows Better?

It’s close to a tie for the core flows. Both apps ship ready-made welcome, abandoned cart and post-purchase flows, per their App Store listings. Similarly, both connect directly to Shopify, so products, customers and orders sync without code.

Omnisend’s own 2026 Ecommerce Marketing Report shows why these flows matter. Across 150,000 brands in 2025, automations were about 2% of email sends but 30% of email revenue. Moreover, abandoned cart and welcome messages drove 76% of all automation orders. That said, this is Omnisend’s data about its own users.

In particular, one documented limit is worth knowing. Omnisend’s help center says that “first-time abandoned carts can only send Email, not SMS,” because phone numbers sync after a customer’s first order. For instance, a new visitor who leaves a cart gets emails only. For a deeper Klaviyo setup, see our guide to Klaviyo AI segmentation for abandoned carts.

Verdict: a tie for core flows; neither tool gives a small store an edge here.

Which Is Better for SMS?

Omnisend is usually cheaper per message, while Klaviyo is simpler to budget. Klaviyo’s App Store listing shows an SMS plan at $15 a month for up to 1,250 SMS or MMS credits, carrier fees included. Thus, that works out to about 1.2 cents per credit, by my math.

Omnisend, on the other hand, sells SMS as prepaid credits. Its pricing page lists US rates of $0.009 per message for $10 to $49.99 of credits, falling to $0.007 above $10,000. As a result, a store sending 1,000 US texts a month would spend about $9 on Omnisend credits versus the $15 Klaviyo plan.

However, compare credits carefully. An MMS uses more credits than a plain SMS on both platforms, and rates vary by country.

Verdict: Omnisend wins on SMS cost; Klaviyo wins on a predictable monthly bill.

Which Do Shopify Merchants Rate Higher?

It’s a near tie on ratings, with fewer one-star reviews for Omnisend. Omnisend’s App Store listing shows 4.7 out of 5 from 3,197 reviews, with 5% at one star. Likewise, Klaviyo’s listing shows 4.7 from 3,395 reviews, with 8% at one star.

Shopify’s AI summaries point in different directions. For Omnisend, merchants mostly praise ease of use, value against competitors and 24/7 support. Conversely, for Klaviyo, they praise flows, segmentation and analytics. Consequently, that lines up with the cost and data trade-off above.

Verdict: a tie on stars; Omnisend has a smaller share of one-star reviews.

Who Should Choose Omnisend vs Klaviyo?

Choose Omnisend if price and simple setup matter most. Choose Klaviyo if you already have the order history to feed its predictions.

  • Stores under 500 paying customers: choose Omnisend. Klaviyo’s predictive features won’t switch on yet, so you’d pay more for tools you can’t use.
  • Stores with 500+ repeat buyers and 6+ months of orders: test Klaviyo. Predicted next-order dates can time replenishment and win-back emails better than fixed delays.
  • SMS-heavy stores on a tight budget: choose Omnisend for the lower per-message rate.
  • Stores already on Klaviyo with working flows: stay unless the bill hurts. Rebuilding flows takes time, and the savings are about $200 a year at 5,000 contacts.

Alternatively, if neither fits, Shopify’s own email tool may be enough for a very small list. Before adding any app, check your current bill with our Shopify AI app stack audit. For a wider view, see our roundup of email marketing tools for Shopify.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Omnisend cheaper than Klaviyo?

Yes, at every tier I priced. Omnisend Standard costs $16 a month at 500 contacts versus $20 for Klaviyo Email, and about $81 versus $100 at 5,000 contacts. Omnisend also takes 30% off the first three months if you prepay. Check both calculators for your exact list size before deciding.

Is Klaviyo better than Omnisend for Shopify?

Only for stores that can use its predictions. Klaviyo forecasts lifetime value, churn risk and the next order date, but it needs at least 500 paying customers and 180 days of order history. In contrast, below that, Omnisend covers the same core flows for less money.

Can I switch from Klaviyo to Omnisend?

Yes. Omnisend’s pricing page lists free migration on its paid plans. However, you’ll need to rebuild and test each flow, re-check your sending domain, and warm up sending if your list is large. Plan the switch outside a big sales period such as Black Friday.

Does Omnisend have SMS on the free plan?

Omnisend’s pricing FAQ says the free plan includes all features, including SMS, within its 250-contact and 500-email limits. In addition, paid SMS works through prepaid credits, with US rates from $0.009 to $0.007 per message depending on how much you buy.

What is the best Klaviyo alternative for Shopify?

For most small and mid-size Shopify stores, Omnisend is the closest Klaviyo alternative. In fact, it has the same core flows, a similar 4.7 rating and lower prices at every tier I checked. If you only send a simple newsletter, Shopify’s own email tool may be enough.

Overall for a $500K to $5M storeOmnisend, unless you’ll use predictions

For most Shopify stores in the $500K to $5M range, Omnisend is the better value. Meanwhile, Klaviyo earns its higher price when you have the order history to use its predictions. As a result, start with the data: count your paying customers and months of orders, then pick the tool that fits.
